Trade Licence Amendment in Dubai

Modify your Dubai trade licence accurately and compliantly. We manage all types of amendments — from adding activities and changing shareholders to updating your trade name and company address.

Business needs evolve. Partners change, activities expand, company names get rebranded, and registered addresses move. Every material change to your company's details must be formally reflected in your trade licence through a trade licence amendment process with the issuing authority — either the DED for mainland companies or the relevant free zone authority. Operating with outdated or incorrect licence details is a compliance risk. Banks periodically review your corporate documents and may flag discrepancies between your account profile and your registered trade licence data. Government authorities also rely on trade licence records for visa processing, regulatory filings, and contract approvals. Ensuring your licence accurately reflects your company's current status is an ongoing responsibility. This page covers all types of trade licence amendments available in Dubai, the process for each, and the documents required. For changes specifically to your business activities, see our dedicated business activity amendment page. For annual renewal, see our trade licence renewal service. We manage the full amendment process on your behalf, coordinating with the relevant authorities and ensuring changes are reflected correctly across all associated records. Contact us to get started.

Amendment Process

1

Amendment Assessment

We review the proposed change, identify all documents and approvals required, and advise on the correct sequence of steps. For complex changes involving multiple amendments, we plan the process to minimise disruption to your operations.

2

Document Preparation

We prepare all required documents — updated MOA drafts (mainland), supporting corporate documents, shareholder consents, and any required sector approval applications.

3

Regulatory Approvals (Where Required)

For amendments involving regulated activities or requiring prior approval from sector authorities (DHA, RERA, SCA, etc.), we obtain these approvals before or in parallel with the main licence amendment application.

4

Government Submission

We submit the complete amendment application to the DED or free zone authority, pay the applicable government fees, and track the application to resolution.

5

Updated Licence and Records

Once the amendment is approved, we collect the updated trade licence, confirm that all details are correct, and advise on any associated updates needed (bank notification, visa records, contracts).

Common Amendment Requirements

  • Current trade licence copy
  • Specific documents for the change type (see guidance above for each amendment type)
  • Updated passport copies for incoming shareholders or managers
  • Amended Memorandum of Association — mainland companies, drafted and notarised
  • No Objection Certificate — from departing shareholders or as required
  • Sector approval certificates — for regulated activity additions
  • New Ejari tenancy contract — for address changes on mainland companies
  • Government amendment fee payment

Frequently asked questions

How long does a trade licence amendment take in Dubai?

Most standard amendments — activity additions, manager changes, address updates — are processed within 2–5 working days from submission of a complete application to the DED. Amendments requiring MOA notarisation or sector approvals may take longer. Free zone timelines vary by zone and amendment type.

Can I add activities at any time, or only at renewal?

You can add activities at any point during the licence year, not only at renewal. The amendment is effective once processed and the updated licence is issued. There is no need to wait until the renewal date, and it is often better to amend promptly rather than deferring to renewal.

Does adding activities affect my visa quota?

Adding business activities does not directly change your visa quota. For mainland companies, the quota is determined by office space size. For free zone companies, it is set by your package tier. However, if a new activity requires a specific visa category (e.g., a healthcare professional role), the visa eligibility may change.

What if I want to change both the trade name and the activities at the same time?

Multiple amendments can be processed simultaneously or in a planned sequence. We advise on the most efficient approach — in some cases, processing amendments together reduces the total time and cost compared to sequential applications.

Do banks need to be notified of amendments?

Yes. Any material change to your company's registered details — shareholder changes, trade name updates, address changes — should be communicated to your bank promptly, along with a copy of the updated trade licence. Banks have KYC obligations that require them to hold current records, and significant discrepancies can lead to account restrictions.

Can I reduce the number of activities on my licence?

Yes. Removing activities from your licence is also processed through the amendment mechanism. This may be desirable if you no longer conduct certain activities and wish to reduce your licence scope, potentially reducing the renewal fee in some cases.
